Summerland Credit Union respects your privacy and will look after your personal information. Personal information is information held by us about you. This may include but is not limited to information such as your name, address, date of birth, occupation, tax file number, credit record and transaction history. When a request is made to open an account for a person who is a minor, we may collect information from a parent or guardian who will be the signatory on the account. At that time the information on the signatory is also collected. Minors aged 13 and over may open accounts in their own name, with information collected directly from them. We are committed to a duty of confidentiality and will comply with all privacy laws. We will only use your personal information when responding to your request, e.g. taking applications, managing your membership, opening accounts and providing or giving information on our products and services. Collection and use of personal information We collect, use and store personal information that you give us to provide the products and services we offer. These may include: Personal details Contact details Financial information Transaction information Some laws require that we collect certain information before we can provide you with our products and services. For example we must identify you before you can open a savings or deposit account or obtain a loan. We must obtain a credit report before we can lend you money. We will only ever use such information for the purpose that it is obtained. If we receive information from third parties we will tell you so. If we use agents or third party contractors, e.g. mailing houses or information technology consultants, they must comply with our privacy policy. We may also share information with solicitors and valuers to help provide you a service. Telephone calls to our Support Centre may be monitored for training and coaching purposes. Providing your personal information to other parties We may provide information to other parties if we are compelled to do so by law (e.g. under subpoena) or have a duty to the public to do so. Information may also be disclosed if it is deemed to be in the proper interests of the credit union or if consent has been provided by a member. We may also exchange your information to help detect or prevent fraud and other criminal activity. We will only use and disclose tax file and Medicare numbers as required by law. Member's personal information may be provided to a third party for the purpose of verifying your details to meet the compliance obligations under the Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act legislative requirements.
Marketing consent From time to time, we may use personal information to inform you about new products and services available from Summerland, or other businesses with which we have a relationship. If you do not wish to receive this information you can contact us by phoning 1300 802 222 or by using our contact form. If you prefer to receive your statements, newsletters and other material electronically, you can register for eStatements through our Internet Banking service. Once you let us know that you no longer wish to receive this information, we will stop sending it. You can change your mind about receiving information about our products and services at any time. If the law requires us to provide information about our products or services, we will provide that information even if you have elected not to receive information about our products and services generally. Security of your personal information The security of information is important to us and we take all reasonable precautions to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Some of the ways we protect personal information include: Hard copy documents are secured on our premises and at archive sites by locks and security systems; Where practicable, original documents are returned to you and not kept on our premises; Personal files are destroyed and de-identified where appropriate; and Maintaining technology products to prevent unauthorised computer access including identifiers and passwords. Access and changes to your personal information You can contact us at any time to access your personal information. Depending on the amount of information requested we may charge you an access fee. We will handle requests for access to your personal information in accordance with the National Privacy Principles. We will deal with all requests for access to personal information as quickly as possible. We may refuse you access to personal information in some circumstances, such as where the information relates to anticipated legal proceedings or the request for access is unreasonable and vexatious. If we deny or restrict access, we will explain why. We wish to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up to date. If you request us to do so, we will amend any personal information about you that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.
