Summerland was disappointed to hear the news that White Ribbon Australia has announced that it would close its doors after entering into liquidation.
Summerland recently became a White Ribbon Accredited Workplace, and despite White Ribbon Australia’s decision to close, Summerland remains committed to continuing to work in the community, to promote the prevention of violence.
“Violence prevention and an awareness of it is more important than ever to us,” said Summerland CEO, John Williams.
“I am sad to hear about what has unfolded with White Ribbon Australia. As a customer owned financial institution we have a responsibility to support our employees and customers to challenge inappropriate behaviour and strengthen gender equality within the wider community.
Our commitment to this significant cause will continue beyond the future of White Ribbon Australia,” added Mr Williams.
White Ribbon Australia has previously reported that on average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner and 85% of Australian women have been sexually harassed.
