This November, communities, workplaces and schools are coming together to show their support for White Ribbon Day, Australia’s largest awareness day to prevent men’s violence against women.
We’re thrilled that our fundraising morning tea raised $1200 to support primary prevention initiatives in schools, workplaces and the broader community. To further support this initiative Summerland will be contributing matching dollars raising the fundraising initiative to $2,400. A huge thank you to our community and Summerland team for their contribution.
“Violence against women is at epidemic proportions. Devastatingly, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence,” Summerland CEO John Williams said.
“Murder is at the pointy end of a broad spectrum of violence against women. A spectrum that encompasses financial, verbal, emotional, psychological, physical and sexual abuse, as well as workplace harassment. They all form part of a devastating cycle of violence.
“And the women lost are not just statistics – they are wives, mothers, daughters, grand-daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends and colleagues. Most importantly, they are people, and the impact of the violence perpetrated against them is widespread and long-standing.”
In 2019, Summerland Credit Union proudly became a White Ribbon accredited workplace – recognised for leading social change to prevent and respond to violence in our communities.
Our support of this very important issue is about helping to reshape attitudes, address inequalities, partner with stakeholders and advocate for change,” said Pamela Sinclair, Summerland’s People and Culture Manager.
“Our organisational policy on violence outside of the workplace plus our commitment to being Workplace Gender Equity Act 2012 compliant illustrates how valuable equality is to us,” said Pam Sinclair.
