Supporting White Ribbon Fundraiser

This August Summerland Credit Union is getting behind White Ribbon Australia’s Community Response Fundraiser to show support to eliminate men’s violence and abuse against women and children.

Right now many Australian people and businesses are doing it hard. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant millions of people remain in lockdown, borders are closed and businesses are at the sharp end of the economic pinch.

What we also know is that women are experiencing a higher rate of domestic violence during the pandemic and that lockdowns and social distancing have not only seen an increase in violence, but also reduced the ability of victims to seek help.

“Over the next three weeks, with the help from staff and the community we will be wearing funky ties and earrings to raise much needed donations to help contribute to raising $75,000 to fund 13 community projects across Australia to end men’s violence against women,” said Summerland CEO, John Williams.

“With outdoor gatherings restricted to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this is our unique way to have a conversation to help raise awareness, advocate for, and help fund local initiatives that can prevent men’s violence against women before it starts,” added Mr Williams.

The team from Summerland will be donating to the Community Response Fundraiser and will ask community and customers to also support the initiative. All donations raised will be matched dollar for dollar by Summerland Credit Union.

In 2019, Summerland Credit Union proudly became a White Ribbon accredited workplace – recognised for leading social change to prevent and respond to violence in our communities.

White Ribbon Australia is a leading community services provider, with a renewed focus on grassroots action, collaborating with others and achieving cultural, policy and systemic change by shifting focus from awareness to raising advocacy.
