Summerland is supporting The Salvation Army’s fundraising this year with donations being taken at all branches.
Not only are we are offering traditional collection tins, each branch will also feature a payWave terminal with the ability to accept donations of $10 at a time. So if you want to donate $20, you swipe twice. If you would like to donate less than $10, simply put your donation in the tin.
The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army’s major annual nationwide fundraising drive that helps finance a vast network of social and community services. This includes providing shelter for the homeless, assisting families in crisis through practical support and financial counselling, and guiding people with addictions through to a clean, healthy lifestyle.
Australians have been supporting the Red Shield Doorknock for over 50 years by donating and participating. This year’s appeal goal is $7.5 million and thanks to previous donations, in 2016-17, The Salvation Army provided:
- 20,000 meals for the hungry per week
- Approximately 930 people accommodated per night
- Over 2,000 women helped by Domestic Violence services each year
- Over 40,000 Financial Counselling sessions per year
