We’ve got some fantastic news to share! Summerland just scored the top spot for Excellence in the Sustainability Category at the 2023 Chamber of Commerce Awards in both the Byron and Richmond Valley Business Chambers. This is a big win for us, and it shows how focussed we are about putting people, communities and the planet first.
Key highlights in our submission was our recent B Corp certification – meeting high global standards of transperancy, accountability and positive impact. Summerland has a long history of integrating sustainability practices into our business. We exist for the benefit of our customers and the communities we serve.

The Chamber Awards took a close look at our sustainability efforts, what we’ve achieved in the past year, and where we’re headed. They also checked out how we involve our staff and other folks outside the company in our sustainability journey. Plus, they saw how all our sustainability practices have contributed to our success.
We’ve been busy growing our business in relation to sustainability since 2009, all while reducing our footprint by a whopping 24% and cutting our paper use by 36%. And guess what? We’re not done yet! We’re now running on 100% renewable energy, using sustainable materials for our branch makeovers, and constantly coming up with new ways to be eco-friendly.
But that’s not all. We’re big on social sustainability too! We’re out there teaching school kids about money smarts and giving mature community members the lowdown on avoiding scams. Educating people about these important topics helps everyone in our communities stay financially healthy.
