Last week, B Lab hosted the annual B Corp Conference, The Assembly, bringing together more than 250 certified businesses and purpose-driven organisations from across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
Summerland Bank was proudly represented by Donna and Bruce, joining global B Corp leaders and changemakers for three days of learning, collaboration and inspiration.
The Assembly featured over 30 presentations from speakers representing B Corp businesses, B Lab offices in the Americas, Europe and our region. Together, participants explored what it means to build an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy, and how B Corps can continue to lead the way in creating a better world for people and the planet.
Throughout the event, businesses shared how they’re embedding social and environmental responsibility into every part of their operations, proving that business really can be a force for good. A highlight came from North Melbourne Football Club, now Australia’s first AFL club to achieve B Corp Certification. Their leadership team and players reflected on how the Club’s certification goes far beyond football; it’s about improving lives and fostering stronger communities through sport.
The Assembly also marked an exciting step forward for ethical banking. There are now eight B Corp certified banks in Australia, all of which are mutual banks, reflecting the strong alignment between mutual values and the B Corp philosophy. Representatives from these banks, along with New Zealand’s Kiwi Bank and O-Bank from Taiwan, came together to form a new alliance called “The Bank Tank.” This collaborative group will share ideas and work together to advance the impact of Banking B Corps across the region.
It was a jam-packed three days filled with meaningful discussions and renewed energy for what’s possible when values-led businesses unite.
