Living sustainably: warm home, cool planet.

We know the Northern Rivers and surrounds is all about sustainable living, community spirit, and catching waves, or rays, whenever we can. And as temperatures drop, we’d love to share our favourite practical ways to keep your home snug without breaking the bank. Grab your chai latte, wrap yourself in a locally crafted blanket, and let’s explore how to warm our homes while keeping our planet cool.

Draught-proof your home.

Old-school door snakes: Remember those charming fabric tubes filled with sand or rice that grandma used to place at the base of doors? Well, grandma was onto something… Craft your own door snakes using recycled materials—old jeans, fabric scraps, or even worn-out towels. These keep out cold out, make heating more efficient and add a touch of nostalgia.

Seal gaps and cracks: Channel your inner Bob the Builder by sealing gaps around doors and windows. Weatherstripping and caulking are your allies in the battle against draughts. Bunnings has a great how-to video on youtube here here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb7aOhZBqUw&list=PLSBARC465CGYc-0j1N6uFCVjzoKVFlMEl&index=8

Optimise heating habits.

Chai latte and chill: Instead of always cranking up the heat, slip into your favourite woolly jumper (locally made of course) and pair it with some fluffy socks. Brew yourself a cup of locally sourced chai (extra cinnamon, please). You’ll feel like you’re sipping warmth straight from the hinterland and ready to embrace those cosy vibes.

Sunshine and saltwater: Open those curtains during the day to let the glorious sunshine flood your rooms. When the sun sets, close them to retain the warmth. It’s like bottling sunshine for later!

Eco Home Loan

Choosing a heater.

Split system, reverse-cycle air conditioners: These are as cool as a surf break. They’re energy-efficient and won’t break the bank. Plus, with many different styles to choose from, they can blend seamlessly with your boho-chic decor.

Remember, every little eco switch you make to warm your home cools the planet. And the more efficient our heating systems are, the more money we save. Win win!

Let’s look after our little part of the planet, and our pockets, together.
