March is B Corp Month. A global celebration of businesses using their work as a force for good. 2026 marks three years as a Certified B Corporation, and last year we proudly recertified, reaffirming our commitment to people, place, and purpose.
To celebrate, we’re sharing three sustainability ideas. One for each year we’ve been a certified B Corp business. Small actions. Real impact.
Year one – reduce single-use plastic
Reducing single-use plastic is one of the simplest ways to lower your environmental footprint. Items designed to be used once, like plastic produce bags, often stay in the environment for decades and can contribute to pollution in waterways and wildlife habitats.
Small swaps can make a real difference. When shopping for fruit and vegetables, try switching to reusable produce bags, or skip the bag altogether and place loose produce straight into your trolley. These small habits reduce waste and quickly become second nature.
Sustainability tip: If remembering your reusable bags is the hard part, try keeping them on the passenger seat of your car for a while. Seeing them each time you drive can help build the habit.
Year two – make smarter energy choices
Electricity is one of the main resources we use as a service organisation. That’s why we made the switch. Today, 100% of the electricity used across our branches and head office comes from renewable sources.
Burning fossil fuels for electricity accounts for nearly 40% of global CO₂ emissions, while renewable energy can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 99%.
If you make one sustainability change this year, make it this – review your electricity plan. Choosing a renewable energy provider is one of the most impactful climate actions a household can take.
Not ready to switch? Start with these sustainability tips:
- Adjust your thermostat by 1 to 2 degrees. Slightly cooler in winter, slightly warmer in summer. Lower energy use, same comfort.
- Set your ceiling fan correctly. Summer mode creates a cooling breeze. Winter mode circulates warm air more efficiently.
- Cut hot water use. Install a low-flow shower head or shorten showers by a couple of minutes.
Small shifts. Real savings. Lower emissions.
Year three: protect what’s local
One of the core pillars of B Corp certification is environmental performance. B Corps are assessed on how they reduce their impact, manage resources responsibly and contribute positively to the communities and ecosystems where they operate.
For us, action starts here in the Northern Rivers. We proudly support Bangalow Koalas through hands‑on habitat restoration, with our team using volunteer leave to plant trees and rebuild vital habitat. We also support Friends of the Koala through our eStatements initiative, donating $50 to Friends of the Koala for every customer who switches. This small change helps reduce paper use while directly contributing to local koala conservation. It’s a practical, local action that protects biodiversity and turns our B Corp commitment into something tangible.
Sustainability tip:
Switch to eStatements in February or March and we’ll donate $50 to Friends of the Koala for every customer who makes the switch. Small local actions. Lasting impact.
We became a B Corp because we believe business should benefit people, communities and future generations. Recertifying in 2025 wasn’t the finish line. It was a reminder that this work continues.
This B Corp Month, we invite you to choose just one idea and give it a go. Because progress doesn’t happen all at once. It happens year by year. Action by action.
