A message from our CEO: APRA approval marks a key milestone in our journey.

We are excited to share some good news! The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has approved the planned merger between Summerland Bank and Regional Australia Bank. This merger aims to bring our customers improved and accessible banking across our regional communities. APRA gave the green light on 28 August 2025.

Now, it is up to our customers to decide on whether the merger can proceed.

If the merger goes ahead, we’ll be able to invest more in our branches, products, and services – all while making sure every branch stays open, and all staff retain their jobs.

What does this mean for you?

For now, nothing changes – everything will run as usual until after the customer vote. If the merger is approved, here is what you can look forward to:

  • More branches – Together, we will have 49 locations across regional NSW and Southern Queensland.
  • Friendly support – Over 450 staff will be here to help you succeed.
  • Better banking – You will get access to improved products and digital services, with a focus on making things easier and more convenient.
  • Stronger communities We will continue to support local groups, events, and sustainability projects.

With the combined bank, we will be able to invest more in new technology, security, and services. If the merger gets the go-ahead, we will manage over $5 billion in assets and serve more than 130,000 members throughout regional NSW and Southern Queensland. This partnership marks an exciting next chapter for us – building on achievements like rebuilding our Lismore head office and becoming B Corp certified.

What’s next?

We need our customers to vote for the merger.
Soon, you will get more information about the AGM to assist you in deciding if the merger is in the best interests of customers and Summerland. The information that will be made available includes:

  • A Member Information Booklet that explains everything about the merger.
  • A Proxy Form so you can vote if you cannot make it to the AGM.
  • Details about the AGM on 19 November 2025.

How do you vote?

If you are eligible, you can vote on the merger in these ways:

  • Fill out and send us your Proxy Form (you will find the proxy form online, at our branches, or we can post it to you). Just make sure we get it at least 48 hours before the AGM.
  • Come along to the AGM in person on 19 November at the Lismore Workers Club.

You will find simple instructions for voting on our website and in our branches in the next few weeks.

If members support the merger, we look forward to shaping a stronger future together from 1 July 2026. Should you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@summerland.com.au or by calling 1300 728 728.

Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for your thoughtful participation in this important decision.
