Supporting koalas, one small switch at a time.

Koalas are an iconic part of our local environment, but they continue to face challenges from habitat loss, illness, and environmental change. Protecting vulnerable wildlife takes long-term commitment, local knowledge, and strong community partnerships.

At Summerland, supporting koalas is not new. For many years, we’ve worked alongside local organisations, including Bangalow Koalas and Friends of the Koala, helping protect and care for koalas across the Northern Rivers. These long-standing relationships reflect our belief that meaningful impact comes from sustained local action, not one-off initiatives.

Friends of the Koala plays a vital role in rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for injured and displaced koalas, while also supporting education and habitat protection. Alongside this, Bangalow Koalas focuses on long-term habitat restoration, working with landholders and the community to reconnect koala corridors and create safer environments for wildlife across the region.

Together, these organisations support both the immediate and future needs of koalas, from urgent care to long-term habitat protection.

As part of our commitment, each Summerland branch has adopted its own koala through Friends of the Koala. From gentle residents like Ivy (Grafton), Kookie (Lismore), and Johnny (Kyogle), to many others across the region, these adoptions help put faces and names to the impact our community support makes.

Customers can learn more about the koalas adopted by their local branch and follow their stories on our website

There are many ways to support koala conservation. Customers and community members can make a direct donation to Friends of the Koala at any time, either in branch or via the online donation link.

Throughout February and March, one additional way customers can contribute is by switching from paper statements to eStatements. For every eligible customer who makes the switch during this period, Summerland will donate $50 to Friends of the Koala.

When communities and local organisations work together, small actions can add up to real and lasting change.

Meet the koalas!
